BMI Automatically Calculated

On the Vital Signs layout and on the Constitutional Exam layout the height is now recorded in inches. This was done so that the BMI can be automatically calculated by the program when both the height and weight of the patient are recorded.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_mass_index is a good reference if you are interested in how this parameter is calculated and how to interpret it.

Upgrade of Users Has Begun

The upgrade to the new version, 8.5, has begun. So far about five groups have had their records migrated and have begun using it.

This version has been exhaustively tested and we are quite sure you will be pleased with it. It is faster, easier to use, has many new features, and many refinements of existing features.

There are videos and other instructional material about how to use the new features in the Interface section of our website:
http://www.icanotes.com/look.html

There are two problems created during the migration process that we need to bring to your attention.

The first is that migrated records will have to have their diagnoses and medications re-entered. This will only have to be done once, when a new note is made. After that, these items will be brought forward from one note to the next, as usual.

Secondly, migrated records will have to be edited, if they need editing, at the preview page. New records made on the new version can be edited, as usual, by returning to the work areas, as desired.

We regret the inconvenience these problems will cause but hope you agree that they are more than compensated for by the many advantages of the new program.

We look forward to hearing your reaction to this upgrade and, as always, to hearing your input and suggestions.

If you are still using the older version, we will be letting you know when you are going to be upgraded.

Some Presciptions Cannot Be Printed as Ordered

Have you noticed that unless you have an active order (eg: Increase, Decrease, Continue, Begin, etc) you cannot print a prescription?

If your order is to "Stop" a medication or if the command in the first pop down contains a date as in, for example, "3-12-08 increased", ICANotes will no longer take you to the Rx section.

This was done to simplify the programming for the Medication Log and to make sure that orders are appropriate when prescriptions are written. For example, to prevent a prescription being written for a medication that has been "stopped."

Using Firefox to Access ICANotes

Someone asked if they could use Firefox as the browser to access ICANotes:

Dave provided the following response:

Unfortunately not, but there is a semi-solution. You can continue to use Firefox as your default web browser and make a shortcut to ICANotes on your desktop.

Please try the following:

First, use Internet Explorer to access ICANotes and make the ICANotes connect page the home page. Close IE.

Right-click on your desktop and then choose new->shortcut. At the location prompt, click" Browse" and then select My Computer/C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/iexplore.exe and click OK.

Click Next and then type "ICANotes" for the shortcut name.

Click Finish. You now have a shortcut on your desktop to open ICANotes in Internet Explorer. You can use Firefox for everything else.
